We also played a crucial role in creating and organizing the Multicultural Greek Council that exists at the university today. Since then we have been the first and only multicultural sorority at GVSU. At USC, we are proud to be one of the most diverse multicultural. The Omicron Alpha Chapter was founded on Grand Valley's campus on February 20, 1999. Nationally, Sigma Lambda Gamma is the largest and fastest growing Latina-based sorority. The purpose of Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority shall be primarily one of promoting standards of excellence in morality, ethics, and education. The TRIO program helps provide educational opportunities for disadvantaged students, which. Breast Cancer impacts 1 out of 8 women, so it is extremely important that we spread awareness as a sorority since it can affect women across the nation and the world. We strive to educate the community about cultural diversity and the importance of being culturally aware within our communities. Sigma Lambda Gamma promotes academic excellence and higher education for all women via an incorporation of our principles: Academics, Community Service. Sigma Lambda Gamma has 2 philanthropies, Breast Cancer Awareness and the TRIO program. The nationalities in our sisterhood reflect over 109 countries of origin. So, we dedicate ourselves to providing a mechanism of empowerment to ALL women. We have grown to become widely respected within the Greek community and the fastest growing fraternal organization in the United States. We are a Latina-based sorority that emphasizes Multicultural membership. Sigma Lambda Gamma is a sisterhood of women who have chosen this affiliation as a manner to achieve personal development and awareness to the responsibility. Sigma Lambda Gamma is a national sorority founded on April 9th, 1990 at the University of Iowa.
